Actions

During the course of the game, characters will be performing activities both significant and mundane.
Simple Actions
Any general activity performed by characters can be defined as either a simple action or a complex action. Certain actions These types of actions are called Simple Actions.
Complex Action
Some actions are more involved, having required in-depth training or consists of the character focusing on multiple details. These types of actions are called Complex Actions. These activities are attempted, and success depends upon rolling against a Difficulty Number. Moreover, complex actions are both involved in the nature of their execution.
For instance, powering up the Astrogation Computer on a ship’s bridge is considered an involved and single activity, and thus a complex action. Pre-flight activation of an entire ship’s navigation and control system consists of a series of complex actions, and would be considered a complex activity. However, if a character has a skill rank of +5 related to the complex action, no opposed roll is necessary in non-combat conditions.
Free Actions
Given the experience of the character in the larger realm of the Galaxy, certain actions are considered common-place. These types of actions are called Free Actions. Such activities do not require verification of success, if the character has a reasonable knowledge of the topic or activity in question. Moreover, free actions are simple in the nature of their execution, and can be performed alongside both simple and complex actions provided they do not interfere with the performance of these actions. Speaking while firing a weapon is an example of a free action.
Actions during Combat
Actions performed during combat are more limited, consisting of combinations of Free and Complex Actions. To start, a combat round can include either two free actions or one complex action. A character can perform both a complex action and a single free action, if the character successfully throws Discipline +12.
